This is a critical aspect in attaining an interoperable Health Information Domain (HID). It must be based upon the use of common conventions for the Data Structure and Data Representation dimensions of the HID as defined in the harmonized informatics standards presently existing and those yet to come. ADA, ASTM, HL7, NCPDP, DISA X12N are key contributors to the presnt inventory. This inventory must be harmonized through common work organized by the SDOs and then built into the health professions eductional (both formal and CPE) curriula as noted in the IOM Report of 2003. These steps will take broader active effort than has yet occurred but still very much achievable. The Book noted in this project will be a significant contributor to such education.
