Patient Privacy Access ControlEstablish the structure and processes to enable a patient to control his/her health informationPatients are concerned about the privacy and security of their health information. Until recently, most of the focus has been on security of medical records (insure that the health information is not released inappropriately). Now the debate has shifted to how can a patient control who gets to use personal health information and for what purpose. SAMHSA, which deals with presonally sensitive information, has taken the lead in establishing these personal privacy constructs. This work is complicated by need to coordinate with ongoing efforts with "role-based access control (RBAC)" that are being implememted within institutions to control information access by their personnel. Apelon has been engaged to establish the terminology for these privacy concepts and the link to RBAC. Type of project: federal gov and HL7
