| Current Projects: |
2002-2005 Principal Investigator, “Oral
health/OHRQOL among low-SES rural adults”, NIH-NIDCR-R21-DE-14999,
$541,875. This is a grant to investigate the influence that oral
health has on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL), nutritional
status, and life-space mobility among low socioeconomic status (SES)
adults.
2002-2003 Investigator, “Comparing Outcomes Between
Non-Randomized Treatment Groups”, University of Alabama at
Birmingham Lister Hill Center for Health Policy Research intramural
grant, $19,408. This is a grant to fund methodologic analyses to
investigate three methods used to account for selection bias in
observational health studies (Heckman’s selection bias correction,
instrumental variables analysis, and propensity score adjustment).
2002-2004 Principal Investigator, , second
competing renewal grant, NIH-NIDCR-R01-DE-11020, $472,654. This
is a 2nd competing renewal grant for a prospective longitudinal
cohort study of oral health and dental care use called the Florida
Dental Care Study. Data collection for the project ended in 2000.
This renewal is devoted to data analysis and manuscript preparation
only. Although a total of 44 manuscripts and publications had resulted
from the study to that point, a large number of original contributions
remain for publication and dissemination.
2001-2006 Principal Investigator, "Mid-Career Investigator
Award in Patient-Oriented Research", NIH-NIDCR-K24-DE-14164,
$613,081. This grant provides salary support, career development,
and establishes a formalized mentoring program in oral health patient-oriented
research.
2001-2003 Principal Investigator, “A Statewide Network
to Enhance Oral Health Research Infrastructure”, University
of Alabama at Birmingham Health Services Foundation, UAHSF # 200124,
$122,000. This grant provides funds to establish a dental practice-based
research network of dentists in private practice throughout the
state of Alabama. The intent is to facilitate transfer of cutting-edge
research findings quickly into daily dental private practice, and
to develop an infrastructure to conduct “real-world”
dental care effectiveness studies. |
